Recently, I accepted the position of Account Manager for our Chicago location and had to move from my Cincinnati home.

There are many steps to moving, including finding the right home, packing, unpacking and moving our belongings from one location to the other.  Being a Cincinnati native for the past 18 years and only moving once, I was nervous about the whole process. Since I work for an IT company, I thought to myself, “There has to be an app or something that would help with this process.”

Alas, I purchased The Moving Van app for $1.99.

This app helped me keep track of which box each thing I packed was in. When we started unpacking, we prioritized which boxes needed to be unpacked first, so we could get them out of the way. The added bonus in doing this, and taking pictures of the content, was that it would help in case of insurance issues or if we were going to be storing some of the items in the boxes for quite some time.

Who doesn’t love to get a postcard in the mail? (Or any real personal mail, these days?) It’s a glimpse into a friend or family member’s trip to some exotic locale with a “wish you were here, thinking of you” message.

Just makes you feel kind of special.

But when was the last time you sent a postcard or found one in your mailbox? Everything is so digitalized these days that the hassle of selecting and buying a postcard and a stamp, writing a message and actually putting it in a mailbox seems like more work than it’s worth to most people.

Enter the Postagram app for the iPhone.

Now you can send old school postcards using new technology! With the push of a button and for only $1.00, you can send a real personalized postcard with any picture you’ve taken on your iPhone to any address in North America.

Are you a textaholic who is having trouble keeping your text log cleaned up on your Android phone? If you are anything like me, you probably have 1000+ texts, and you just can’t seem to make time to clean them up.

Unfortunately, the Android struggles to handle a large number of texts when it comes to trying to delete them. And often, when it gets over several hundred texts, it can lock up the phone when trying to delete them.

Have you ever found yourself listening to your iTunes on your computer from a couple of rooms away and wanted to change the volume or song? If you have, I have the perfect app that can be downloaded for free from the Android Market.

It is called TunesRemote. What it does is allow you to control your iTunes library. All you have to do is connect you phone to your home wireless network and share your iTunes library on the computer. Then TunesRemote will let you change songs, change volume, create a playlist or whatever you normally do while sitting in front of your computer.

My friends and I recently started using an application called GroupMe.  It’s an application which can be used by iPhone, Blackberry and Android users.  If you don’t have any of these, you can simply use text messages, but that’s only recommended if you have an unlimited text plan.

Once a group has been created, it’s like being in a chat room on your mobile device.  You can easily add anyone in your contacts to a group, since it connects to the mobile phone number.

I have four computers and six monitors in my office.  I know this seems like a lot, but for various technical and productivity reasons, this is what I’ve found works best to facilitate what I need to do.  For all of the equipment, the thing that makes it all work really well is free.

My desktop PC, which I use for most of my day-to-day work, has three monitors.  I have a PC in my office-conference area.  It is attached to a 60” LCD TV; it is effectively used like a traditional projector to allow everyone in a meeting to look at slide decks, spreadsheets, etc., simultaneously.

I also have a “dashboard PC” showing real-time status of service operations metrics.  This sits on my desk.  Finally, I have my laptop, which also sits on my desk, allowing me to prepare for offline use while I travel.

My wife and I listen to a lot of music.  It has been an ongoing project to import all of our old CDs (and even some vinyl) into iTunes.  Someday, when we get around to finishing what we started, we expect to have a pretty big library.

Syncing playlists as well as picking and choosing albums you want to listen to on the go are fine methods, but what if you could access all of it whenever you wanted?  What if the amount of storage on your mobile device was a non-issue?

If you are looking for a fun app which ties into other social networking apps, look no further than Foursquare.  This app allows you to “check in” at places and then have it announced to your Facebook page or your Twitter account.

Users can share tips or inside information and make recommendations about locations they visit.  You can see if your friends are nearby, by looking at where they’ve recently checked in.  You can also find recommendations for your current location or review suggestions for things to do or places to avoid in your area.

Not only that, Foursquare is also a virtual game.  Checking in allows you to unlock badges and earn points based on where, when and how often you check in.  For example, if you check in on a boat, there is an “I’m On a Boat” badge that you can receive.

Apple’s AirPlay is a wireless technology that allows you to stream music, movies and photos to an AirPlay device.  For example, you can watch a movie on your iPhone or iPad and seamlessly redirect the output to an AirPlay device such as an Apple TV.  Or you could be listening to music and redirect the output to a wireless speaker system that is designed for AirPlay.

What if you don’t have an Apple TV or other device designed for AirPlay?  There is another way!
